Betty Lou Powell Obituary

With great sadness, the family wish to share her passing on July 25, 2024.

Betty was born December 2, 1939, in Winnipeg Manitoba.

Betty was the eldest of 8 children, she was predeceased by Edwin Beggs, Donna Empey, and Kathy Ramage. Left to mourn her loss are her brothers Ken Beggs, David Beggs and Rick Beggs and sister Peggy [Jim] Hooper as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

While raising 4 children she worked as an executive secretary for Phillips Electronics (Winnipeg), Cariboo School Division (BC) University Hospital (Alberta) to name a few.

She married Peter Powell in 1985, bringing together a blended family, 4 children each. All eight children called Horsefly BC home at some point in their childhood.

Betty and Peter resided in Stony Plain Alberta before moving to Sicamous BC in 2009.

She will be remembered for making her grandchildren very special birthday cakes. We also have many great memories of her berry picking, camping, hiking and of her travel adventures.

Betty will be sadly missed by her four children, Doreen Stanton (Marshall, Angela, Rebecca [Matt]), Robert Desilets (Ryan), Patricia Desilets Pennock [Greg] (Kaylin [Desiree-Benson, Daxton, Grayson], Reagan), Dan [Tammy] Desilets (Taylor, Cole). Peter’s children Kris [Christine] Powell, Shela [Jay] Hughson (Alysia [Ken -Emerson, Brantley and Wyatt] Travis [Jacqueline], Mathieu [Angela] Powell (Amelie, Benjamin, Kaiden) and Greg Powell (Ella).

Betty and Peter moved to Lakeside Manor Retirement Residence in Salmon Arm 2 years ago and have enjoyed their time and made many friends at that facility.

We will have a celebration of life for her at a date to be determined.
