Alan James Holz, age 77, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, formerly of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Regions Hospital in St Paul, Minnesota.
Alan was born August 8, 1946, to Arnold and Urma (Stoos) Holz in Mankato, Minnesota. He graduated from Spring Lake Park High School with the Class of 1964. After high school, Alan continued his education at the University of Minnesota where he received his bachelor’s degree.
He taught high school English for a year. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he went on to attain a master’s degree in Employment Counseling from Mankato State University where he met his future wife, Rebecca Johnson.
On August 4, 1973, Alan married Rebecca at Freeborn United Church of Christ in Freeborn, Minnesota. They raised their family in Cottage Grove, Minnesota before retiring to Spring Valley, Wisconsin. Alan’s first job after attaining his master’s degree was at 1st Bank of St. Paul (U.S. Bank) where he met many of his lifelong friends. He retired from the Olsen-Thielen accounting firm in St. Paul after a 40-year career in human resources.
Alan and Rebecca enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Rockport, Texas and summers back home. Alan especially loved playing golf with his friends, Steve and Joe, and spoiling his beloved dog, Etta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Roger and sister Catherine.
Survivors include his wife Rebecca; daughters: Megan (Andy) Laudenbach and Emily (Kevin) Ross; grandchildren: Norah and Hugo Laudenbach; brother Del (Alice) Holz; and many relatives and friends.
A private family graveside service is planned at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The family prefers Memorials be donated to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
