We announce the sudden passing of Glen Weger on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 76 years of age.
Glen was born in Indian Head on March 29, 1948, to Edward and Elsie (Hahn) Weger. They farmed south of Grenfell until 1953 when they moved to Melville. Glen attended East End School, Central School and Melville High School.
Although Glen was an only child, he was raised surrounded by family and spent a lot of time with aunts, uncles and cousins. He learned many shenanigans, which became a character trait for him and developed his fun personality.
While in Grade 12, Glen met Francie, first dated one week before graduation, and dated on and off for three years; they married on August 29, 1970. They were blessed with two sons, Cory and Robin. There were many years of ups and downs, but they always made it through the roller-coaster rides.
Glen was involved with coaching when his boys became involved in sports and was very dedicated to his children’s education. His church was important to him; he taught Sunday school at a young age, which led to teaching confirmation. He was very dedicated to his church, serving on several committees and on church council, including as chairperson.
During high school, Glen worked various jobs, including taxi driver and grocery boy at Silverman’s. He began work with the CN for twenty years. After being laid off, in order to make ends meet, he took odd jobs – pumping gas, driving the handicap van, custodian at the church, and a stint at St. Paul Lutheran Home in maintenance. Glen then moved on to Melville Housing Authority, as well as Rail City in paper recycling. He spent 20 years at Melville Comprehensive School as custodian; he loved the kids and harassed the teachers – he was back at school! After retirement, Glen was so dedicated to his church that he seemed to always be there. However, Melville Community Works came calling, and he spent another nine years doing what he loved best, teasing and bugging another generation; they couldn’t wait to put him to work!
Glen was a self-taught do-it-yourselfer. As he had time, he remodelled their whole house and worked at the cabin at the lake. There was always a major project on the go; his handiwork could be seen everywhere.
After living in Melville all their lives, including 47 years in their own home, Glen and Francie moved to Grenfell on May 15, 2023. Although they never thought it would be such a huge challenge in their lives, they developed new friendships, especially at the Legacy Inn.
Glen was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Elsie; a brother in infancy; his in-laws, Lloyd and Marjorie Redenbach; his beloved grandson, Jordan Glen Weger; brother-in-law Mel Siever; and many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family. He leaves to mourn his passing: his beloved wife and life partner, Francie; his sons, Cory (Annette) and Robin (Trish); grandchildren Aleshia, Chelsea (Christian), Braden (Sydney), Jillian, Sophie, Chandler and Brady; great-grandchildren Elliott (5) and Oliver (3); sister-in-law Joy; niece Kerry (TJ) and their children, Daylen and Tyann; nephew Ryan (Pam) and their children, Hunter, Rowyn and Preston; brothers-in-law Terry and Louie (Selena) and families; uncle-in-law Roger and family; aunts-in-law Marilyn, Marguerite and Darlene; and also, of great importance, his many friends, acquaintances and all those he met through his life during school years, at work places, in community activities, and at church.
