EAST FISHKILL – Lillian Derkach, 91, an area resident since 1968 and formerly of Long Island, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024 surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Lillian was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 25, 1932, daughter to Alexander and Anna (Litwin) Urbanoff. She graduated from Dutchess Community College and was employed as a Parole Department Administrator for the New York State Department of Corrections. She loved to travel, visit with friends and enjoyed many civic organizations. She was a member of the East Fishkill Seniors, The Wiccopee Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the IBM Widow’s Club.
On May 24, 1952, Lillian married Nicholas Derkach who predeceased her on April 14, 2001. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Sunny Phillips, Florence Majersky and Alexander Urban.
Lillian would light up any room she walked into, she had contagious energy, a zest for life, and taught her family and friends how to enjoy every day to the fullest. She was sharp, witty, independent and loved to challenge herself with card games, the stock market, or a long drive to Daytona Beach. She enjoyed day trips with the “seniors” at the senior center, and in her younger years loved to explore the world and travel with family and friends. Her smile, laughter and spirit lives on in our memories.
Lillian is survived by her daughter; Victoria Sakorafos; her son, Peter Derkach and his partner Pauline O’Reardon; her son Nicholas Derkach; her grandson, James Sakorafos, his wife Sharon, and their children, Kenneth and Xavier; and her granddaughter, Alexa Maynard and her husband Jessie.
