John Lewis Dawson Obituary

John Lewis Dawson of Mahwah, NJ died peacefully on August 4, 2024 at age 85. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Ebba (Winstrom) and Daniel Dawson on July 9, 1939. After serving in the U.S. Navy for 6 years (1956-1962), John served as a fireman and police officer in Waldwick, NJ where he met his wife, Olga, and later had two children, Debora and David. John was a very talented writer as his resume reflected, holding positions at IT&T, Krumb & Foster, OTS (U.S. Treasury). He was also a talented musician, often entertaining family and friends with his guitar and belting out country classics. He was a handyman and talented carpenter too, buying houses then renovating them only to flip them in an effort to give his family the best life he could afford. As a result, they spent many years in Ramsey, NJ where his children went to school and then moved to Mahwah, NJ where he made fast friends with their neighbors.

John is survived by his loving wife, Olga, his daughter Debbie and her fiancé Donald Sinclair, his son David and his wife Kelly and his beloved grandchildren, Aidan and Dylan Dawson. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Dawson, his wife Carla and family.

To honor John’s memory, memorial visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 2 - 4 PM and 5 - 7 PM with a memorial service being conducted at 6:30 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey, NJ.
