Mrs. Pattie Sue Jordan Tapp, a native of Roxboro, NC, transitioned from her earthly life on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Duke Regional Hospital, Durham, NC. 

Pattie was born October 8, 1944, to the late Willie Melvin and Henrietta Royster Jordan.  She was baptized at an early age at the Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church but later joined Shady Hill Baptist Church. She attended Person County Schools and graduated in the Person County High School class of 1962. Following high school, she enrolled at Elizabeth City State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree and later a Master’s degree from the University of Virginia.

Pattie was an athlete; enjoying playing softball, volleyball and even tennis while in college. After college, Pattie became an educator, teaching physical and health education along with coaching various team sports. She served the youth of Halifax County Schools in Virginia and the community for 34 years and after retiring, worked in the Person and Granville County School systems for several more years.

She was a member of Roxboro LaSertoma International, and the Fidelity Chapter 576, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA, where she served two terms as Worthy Matron. Pattie was a member of the Roxboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she served as President and in other positions within the chapter. She served her community as a member of the Roxboro Housing Authority Board and was a part of efforts to operate a YMCA in Person County in the early 1980s. She loved to travel and was an avid sports fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Landus Darrel Tapp, her son, Karlos Raheem Tapp, foster son, Jay Jordan, siblings, Mary Elizabeth Jordan and Archie Brice Jordan; and in-laws, Landus and Margaret Brooks Tapp, Jackie D. Tapp, and Anita G. Tapp.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  her daughter, Keisha and one foster son, Kurt (Christi); two grandchildren, Trevon and Kameryn; two siblings, William (Brenda) and Alean; sister-in-law, Selma (Linwood) and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Public Viewing will be held at Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel -209 Chub Lake St. Roxboro, NC on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1:00 – 6:00 pm. Family will be present from 5:00 – 6:00pm. The Eastern Star last rites and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Omega Omega Service will occur during the last hour of visitation.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 3:00pm at Shady Hill Missionary Baptist Church 1500 Old Durham Rd. Roxboro, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:30 - 3:00pm. Rev. Eddie A. Fuller, Sr., Pastor of Shady Hill Missionary Baptist Church, officiant and Rev. Dr. James A. Richmond, Pastor Emeritus of Shady Hill Missionary Baptist Church, eulogist.
