Ethel A. Hughes Obituary

Ethel A. Hughes (84), passed August 4th, after a brief struggle with cancer.

A graduate of Indiana University, Indiana, PA, with a teaching degree in mathematics and history, she taught for eight years at Duquesne High School, Duquesne, PA.  During that time, she earned a Master's in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She became Executive Director for Public Relations at Median School of Pittsburgh, PA. She resigned from this position four years later after marrying Evan Hughes.
She was a choir member at St. Paul's Cathedral, in Pittsburgh, PA.  A professed member of the Secular Franciscans for 33 years, she was most recently an officer with the St. Michael's Church chapter in Garden City, SC.
Ethel enjoyed traveling, visiting the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe.  She was an avid chess player and watercolorist.  She lived in a variety of locations including Deland, FL, Tallahassee, FL, Janesville, WI, and Wichita, KS, where she pursued a pilot's license.
Ethel was preceded by her husband, Evan, and her baby daughter, Megan.  She is survived by her brothers, Paul and Brian Anater, and her stepson Glenn Hughes.

Interment will take place at Jefferson Cemetery, West Mifflin, PA. via Gilbert Funeral Home, McKeesport, PA.

Rather than flowers or donations, she would say: "Buy something fun for yourself, and just remember me!"

Mrs Hughes is entrusted to Kelvin Lewis, funeral director, and the Lewis Crematory & Funeral Home staff of Myrtle Beach, SC.
