Mary Rose Hortense Sims Beam Obituary

A Bardstown resident, Mrs. Mary Rose Hortense Beam, age 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Taylor Manor in Versailles, Kentucky. She was born September 14, 1928 in Athertonville, Kentucky, to the late Lewis and Florena Mahoney Sims. She was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Beam Sr, a granddaughter Laura Lemieux, and a son-in-law Jerry Riley.


Mrs. Beam was a retired bookkeeper, loved to play bridge and buck pitch, loved gardening. She was a volunteer at Flaget Memorial Hospital Gift Shop and worked as an election officer at the local voting polls. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church where she was a former member of a bereavement team and sang in the church choir. She is survived by four daughters, Betty Carol Riley and Katie (Richard) Patterson, both of Bardstown, Jean (Larry) Acton of Franklin, TN, Jackie (Vincent) Lemieux of Lexington; two sons, John (Karin) Beam Jr. of Lexington, and Joe Gary Beam of Bardstown; one sister, Amanda Osborne of Bardstown, and a sister-in-law Julia Sims of Athertonville; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.


A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00am from the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral, Father J. Randall Hubbard celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00pm at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home at 1475 New Shepherdsville Road and after 8:30am Friday. A prayer service will be Thursday at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Lexington Dream Factory or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
