Brian Jon Kiel passed away Sunday, August 4, of natural causes, in South Bend. Brian was born August 13, 1943, in South Bend to William and Virginia Kiel. They preceded him in death as well as his sister, Diana Ohlendorf.
On August 9, 1969, he married Judith Ellen Amm. She survives, along with two daughters, Diana Kiel of Mount Vernon, New York, and Julie Huxford of Osceola, Indiana; and two grandchildren, Bryce Huxford of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Jillian Huxford of Osceola.
Brian worked for many years at the University of Notre Dame. He managed the stockroom of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department and then worked at Hesburgh Library. He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. Brian was also an accomplished musician. He played piano and sang at many local establishments throughout his years. He had been a member of First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka, where he sang in the choir. He also greatly contributed to the music program at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church. Apart from music, Brian enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, bowling and watching Notre Dame sports.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 7 from 5 to 7 in Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, August 8 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka. Private burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in North Liberty
