Margaret Geneva Banks, age 89 of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Elk River Health and Nursing Center. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Winchester on November 12, 1934, to the late Elzie Vann and Rosa Mae (Judge) Sanders. Before her retirement, she worked as a seamstress. She enjoyed cooking, singing, and getting out and going to yard sales. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh, along with a caring nature that never would let anyone go without. Geneva was a dedicated member of Huntland Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Jerry Banks, Derel Banks, and Wilma Bishop; and siblings, J.D. Sanders, Harold Sanders, and Ray Dean Sanders. Geneva is survived by her loving and devoted husband of seventy-four years, Willie Banks; grandchildren, Carl “Bud” (Sonya) Banks, Anthony (Angie) Jones, Jimmy (Kim) Banks, Brandi (David) Banks, Stacy (Jonathan) Rakestraw, Lindy Banks, and Tammy (Matt) Basaraba; fifteen great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Frances Sells, Gerald (Linda) Sanders, and Ralph Sanders; and daughters-in-law, Virginia Owens, and Diane Banks. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Britton officiating. Interment will follow at Owens Chapel Cemetery.
