LAFAYETTE ~ Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at a 2:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Hilda Mae Fontenot, age 94, who passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024 at her residence in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate at the services.
Hilda was a proud graduate of both Lafayette High School and SLI and remained an active alumna throughout her life. She worked for South Central Bell for several years before opening Hil-Win in Opelousas with her husband Winston.
As an avid crafter, she passed along many of her hobbies to her daughters and grandchildren, including: hand-crafted rosaries, sewing, crocheting, and baking. She was a co-author of several cookbooks and a dedicated member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Alter Society in Opelousas. She and her husband Winston traveled extensively and enjoyed several summers in Alaska.
Hilda's strength, faith, and determination were evident throughout her life. She overcame every physical hardship with grace and was an inspiration to many.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Robison and her husband, Phillip, of Lafayette, Pam Bolsins and her husband, Scott, of Arlington, TX, and Wynette Ducorbier and her husband, Troyce, of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Lauren Landry (Brett), Benjamin Robison (Megan), Allison Huff (Justin), Jonathon Bolsins (Mallory), Hunter Ducorbier (Skye), and Tristyn Ducorbier; seven great grandchildren, Emma Clair Robison, James Winston Robison, Andi Kate Robison, Emma Paige Bolsins, Luke Scott Bolsins, Sadie Marie Ducorbier, and Sophie Elizabeth Ducorbier; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Winston J. Fontenot; her parents, Leonard Hebert and the former Alzire Simon; and two brothers, Nolan Hebert and Norris Hebert.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
The family requests visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Rosewood Assisted Living for their loving and supportive care. During her time there she formed many close friendships with both residents and staff and enjoyed an active community that filled her days with joy and laughter.
A special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana for their guidance and support, especially her nurses and caregivers Katie, Brooke, Alyssa, and Dona. Additional thanks to Kent Zerangue from Food with Love, and Mary Kay for her faith-filled visits.
