Raymond William McKean, “Ray”, 79, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on July 17, 2024, in Washington, D.C. Born on September 18, 1944, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Margaret (Shaw) McKean and the late Carl S. McKean. Ray was the loving husband of Linnie Lou McKean for fifty-one plus years. He is also survived by his children, Virginia Chellaf (Mohamed) of Clements, MD, Christopher McKean (Lori) of Grand Valley, PA, Cynthia Hoffman (Dan) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Willam Corbett of Vestal, NY, his brother, Richard McKean (Sylvia) of Pulaski, NY, as well as eight grandchildren.

Ray graduated from Smithfield, Ridgebury, and Ulster High School in 1963 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg State College in 1970. Ray attended George Washington University where he earned his master’s degree in education and human development.

Ray moved to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1973 from PA and was a Physical Education teacher and guidance counselor for St. Mary’s County Public Schools for 33 years, retiring on July 1, 2006. He was a board member for the Center for Life Enrichment and enjoyed sailing, camping, hiking, travelling with family and friends, dance club, and concerts. Ray was an enthusiastic competitor and capable coach for all games, whether it was backgammon, tennis, horseshoes, or any backyard sport.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Breton Bay Estates, 40415 Rosebank Lane, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
