Susan Deyo Waldon, aged 68, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 after an extended illness.
The family will receive friends at the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, with the funeral service following at 11 AM. Rev. Todd Crosby, assisted by Reggie Sheffield, will officiate the ceremony. Interment will take place at Telfair Memorial Gardens.
Susan was born on Friday, August 5, 1955, in McRae, Georgia, as the youngest of 4 children to the late Bill and Margaret Deyo. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Eastman, Georgia, where she faithfully worshipped and served her Lord.
She spent over 30 years as secretary with the Dodge County Board of Education. She worked quietly and behind the scenes contributing to the education and upbringing of so many children in Dodge County. She was a loving and devoted wife of 47 years to her high school sweetheart, Jimmy. Described as mama and best friend to her daughter Katie and “Susie”' to her grandchildren Lucy and Cole, her warmth and guidance were a beacon of love in their lives.
She leaves behind her husband - James Ernest Waldon of Eastman, Georgia; her daughter - Katie Corbitt (Clay) of Kathleen, Georgia; grandchildren - Lucy and Cole Corbitt; and siblings Janice Deyo Jones (Kenneth), Bill Deyo (Linda), David Deyo (Jan), and Rita Waldon Murray. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and a small group of dear lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Georgia Baptist Children's Home, 9420 Blackshear Hwy SE, Baxley, GA 31513.
