It is with profound grief and hearts full of love that we say goodbye to Judy Janette “JJ” Bonham, who was called Home to Heaven on July 29, 2024, at the age of 84.
Born in Hobart, Oklahoma, on April 17, 1940, she was the daughter of J.D. Maize and Nellie Lois (Ledbetter) Maize, both of whom have preceded her in death. Her husband, Donald Eugene Bonham, preceded her in death on April 1, 2024. Judy is also predeceased by her son, Jefferey Schuldt, two brothers, Jimmie Maize, and Jerald Maize, and a sister, Vicky Maize. While Judy’s family are deeply saddened by this tremendous loss, they find some comfort knowing she is now reunited with her husband of 52 years in the loving presence of our Lord and Savior.
Judy and Don were married in March of 1972. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and along with Don, raised her children with unconditional love and gentle guidance, encouraging them in all their pursuits and endeavors. Throughout her life, Judy’s love for Jesus and the virtues she imparted from her faith were paramount to who she was as a person. In 1980, Judy, along with Donald, founded a singles group ministry at Crossroads church, where they faithfully counseled and ministered to single parishioners for over 30 years. In addition to their singles ministry, they enjoyed hosting regular Bible studies at their home. One of Judy’s favorite ways to rejoice was singing. She had a beautiful voice and often accompanied Don while he played the piano. She looked forward to church every Sunday, and her family highly anticipated the homemade meals Judy would always cook afterward.
Simply put, Judy loved life and celebrated living in every way she knew how. From the time she was a very young lady, she had an adventurous spirit, with others openly admiring her for her bold, fearless nature. She explored many passions and hobbies throughout her life, including traveling as often as possible. She also loved watching NFL and OU football, and everyone close to Judy is no doubt familiar with her fondness for safari animals. Yet, of all the things in life that brought her joy, nothing made her happier than quality time with her beloved family. As we honor her memory, let us remember “JJ” for her beautiful soul, her gracious heart, and for her commitment and devotion to Jesus Christ. She will be very dearly missed.
Judy is survived by her children – Susan McDaniel, Kaye Barger and husband Kirk, and David Schuldt and wife Kathy. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.
