LeRoy Barcelo, Jr. Obituary

LeRoy Barcelo, Jr., 90, of Conroe passed away on July 30, 2024, with his family by his side. LeRoy began his life journey on September 21, 1933, when he was born to LeRoy Barcelo, Sr., and Mattie Lou (Woodard) Barcelo. LeRoy married Betty June Exline on June 8,1953 at The First Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

LeRoy loved talking to people and never met a stranger. When LeRoy was 4 years old, he contracted polio which left the right side of his face paralyzed, it made eating which he thoroughly enjoyed and some other activities difficult, but he always kept a good attitude about his condition. In High School he played football at Freeport (Brazosport) High School and graduated in 1952. LeRoy loved his country and even though he had a disability he proudly served in the army as well as volunteering for the National Guard. He was always happy to share his political views if you agreed with him or not. After serving in the Army, he worked at Freeport Sulfur, Dow Chemical, and worked with his dad on tugboats pushing barges up and down the intercoastal canal. LeRoy and his mother opened a Nursing Home in an old schoolhouse in Liverpool, Texas and moved to Angleton, Texas which eventually became a family business and more nursing homes. After retirement LeRoy and June enjoyed traveling in the countryside visiting with family and friends. He was proud of his family and his last request was to be visited by as many as could come.

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Mattie Lou Barcelo, and his brother Terry Joe Barcelo. Left to treasure his memory is his wife Betty June Barcelo; three children: Robin Kay Powell and husband Gene, LeRoy (Rocky) Barcelo, III and wife Reatha, and Rhonda Faye Horky and husband Bill.
