Mary Margaret Goyins Obituary

Mary Margaret Goyins was born February 13, 1958 in Helena where she spent her life until her untimely passing on July 29, 2024.

Mary was the first born to Bill and Dorothy (McGowan) Walling, they later added her little sister Laurie. Together they and their extended family spent most of their time at the family ranch in the Elkhorn mountains near Boulder. Mary started riding horses at a very young age, she first learned to ride on Welsch ponies, her favorite being Arabess. Even though she outgrew her ponies, she never lost the love for horses. Mary was an avid roper and barrel racer throughout her life. Her horse Farmer was her favorite horse for 31 years. Together they won a saddle in 1994 in the Montana Barrel Racers and Breakaway Ropers Association and qualified multiple times to the Northern Rodeo Association Finals.

Mary graduated from Capital High school. While at Capital High she lettered in both Track and Gymnastics. She started working for Mountain Bell while still in high-school and worked there until Qwest Communications eventually closed. She then joined her cousin Peggy at Northrup Grumman and was working as a Deputy Clerk of District court for Lewis & Clark County at the time of her passing.

Throughout her life you could always find Mary in or around the rodeo arena with lots of friends. They put in lots of time having fun and kicking up dirt. She married Andy Goyins in 1977, together they welcomed their daughter Cally, later divorcing. In 1987 her son Travis was born.

Her best times were spent teaching her kids to rope and watching them compete at rodeos. Once again you could find her at the arena, helping saddle and boot up horses, holding the herd, walking horses out, videotaping runs on her trusty camcorder or just being supportive. Mary was always eager to lend a helping hand to kids wanting to learn the sport of rodeo. Going from ropings to barrel races, she was usually the driver; putting miles on from the west coast - Walla Walla, Washington for Barrel Horse futurities all the way to Springfield, Illinois for the National High School Rodeo Finals.

She was a member and Officer of the Big Sky Barrel Racing Association for many years. Her favorite duty was purchasing and awarding pee-wee prizes. Mary’s favorite pee-wee barrel racer was her granddaughter Kinzlee, aka Peewee. Her final day here on Earth was spent at the Gold Buckle Dreamin Rodeo watching Peewee win her very first buckle.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Cally Goyins (Randy Poser); son, Travis (Christie) Nichols; sister, Laurie Eisenzimer; nephew Tyler (Taylor) Eisenzimer; granddaughter Kinzlee Nichols; step-grandchildren Levi & Peyton Poser, Clintin Buyan, Jason & Skylee Paulsen.
