Lois Ann Rutledge was born to the late Presiding Elder George Anderson and Willie Mae Rutledge, on August 28, 1954, in Plant City, Florida. She was the youngest of three sisters, Esther (Samuel) Snowden - deceased and Vashti (James) Garrett Williams.
Lois graduated from Plant City High School in 1972. She attended Edward Waters College, in Jacksonville, Florida, where she graduated with a BS in Behavioral Science, in 1977. She was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Sigma Dove, and a member of the Heroines of Jericho Pearls (33rd Degree), Winter Haven.
She was employed by Hillsborough County Schools as a substitute teacher, the US Postal Service as a mail worker, and Bealls Outlet as a Cashier/Assistant Manager. Lois was a dedicated servant, until her health declined, of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Plant City, FL. She served as a faithful choir member, YPD director (local and area), and held several positions in the local Women's Missionary Society,
She leaves to mourn: one sister - Vashti Garrett Williams; one devoted son - Gabriel Rutledge Smith (special friend Gail); two nieces - LaGretta Snowden and Michelle Garrett Williams (Robert); one nephew - Michael Snowden; cherished godchildren - Edward, Christopher and Curtis Burgess, Imani Edwards, and Tina (Reginald) Brown; close friends - Jurusha (Edward) Orr Burgess, Elaine Gordon and Dr. Victoria Martin; God brothers - James M. Charlow Jr. and Rev. Moses Brown, along with a host of aunts, cousins, great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
The family appreciates all kind gestures during this time of bereavement.
