James A.L. Larrivee, age 98, of Lakeville, MA, passed away Sunday, July 28th, 2024, at Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA, following a brief illness. Born in New Bedford, MA, on Tuesday November 10th, 1925, Jim was the son of the late Leonard G. and Marie (LaChance) Larrivee. Jim grew up and attended school in New Bedford. He and his former wife, the late Margaret (O’Neil) Larrivee lived in New Bedford for several years before moving to Lakeville, where Jim was a longtime resident until his passing. Jim worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the former Lakeville State Hospital as a storekeeper, retiring at 63. Following his time at the Lakeville State Hospital, Jim went to work cleaning homes and offices. He retired from cleaning in 2014 at the age of 89, after spending eleven to twelve years taking care of the former Mayflower Bank Building, now Rockland Trust in Middleborough. Jim was a former member of the Middleborough Elks Lodge, and a dedicated member of Sts. Martha & Mary Church in Lakeville, serving as an usher and parking lot attendant. He enjoyed going out to eat and nature walks. When he and his former wife Margaret were younger, they enjoyed ballroom dancing at the former Lincoln Park Ballroom in Dartmouth. After the Lincoln Park Ballroom closed, Jim and his girlfriend Bertha Cordeiro would go dancing at the Lantana in Randoph. Jim is survived by his daughters Gail Larrivee of North Easton, and Linda White and her husband Fred of Whitman, his brother Arthur C. Larrivee of New Bedford and Texas, along with many cousins, extended family, and friends. Jim was predeceased by his brothers Roger and Raymond Larrivee and his close friend and girlfriend, the late Bertha Cordeiro. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday August 5th, 2024, at 11:00AM at Sts. Martha & Mary Church, 354 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. Jim will be laid to rest in Precinct Cemetery in Lakeville immediately following the funeral mass.
