Donald D Alt Obituary

Don Alt, 82 of Abilene passed away July 30, 2024. He was born November 6, 1941 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Tony and Ruth (King) Alt. He grew up in Abilene and graduated with the class of 1959, many of them remaining close friends throughout his life. Don served in the United States Navy from 1959-1962. He traveled to many places during his time in the Navy and ended up in California which is where he met Nancy. On December 12, 1976 he was united in marriage to Nancy Hodge in Pasadena, California. She preceded him in death January 3, 2023. He always had a love for acting throughout high school. He continued to act and also developed a love for writing screen plays while in California. Don and Nancy then moved back to Abilene to start a family and be close to family. Don enjoyed being a part of the community theater in Abilene when he returned. He opened an office supply and gift shop in Abilene which he and Nancy ran for many years. Don then worked as an insurance agent for MetLife, retiring from the company and then becoming an independent agent. He later became a lay minister for surrounding Methodist congregations. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening very much. He attempted to golf with Nancy, but was never as good as she was at it! He supported his kids in all of their endeavors and particularly loved watching Christian wrestle. He enjoyed nature and spent a lot of time at Brown's Park with his dogs. Don's true love was his love for all animals, wanting to save them all. His animals were the light of his life. Don is survived by his daughter, Katie Snapp (BJ) and son, Christian Alt. Three grandchildren, Braxton, and Brady Snapp and Charlotte Alt. He was preceded in death by his mom, Ruth Alt and wife Nancy. Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 4, 2024 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church.
