David Bruce Lewis Obituary

David Bruce Lewis, 63, of Coyle, OK passed away on July 29, 2024. Bruce was born December 5, 1960 to Jimmy and Joan (Wilkerson) Lewis in Tulsa, OK. He grew up in Sand Springs, OK and graduated from Charles Page High School in 1979.

Bruce always had a passion for theater, costuming, rescues (animals), collecting things and most recently his grandchildren.

Bruce’s love for theater began in the late 1990’s. He spent over 15 years working with the Broken Arrow Community Playhouse where he costumed many productions and served as the Board President. He collaborated with Alice Wegley and Barbara Martin in their partnership MWL to design costume shows across northeast Oklahoma in various venues including theaters, schools and churches.

Bruce’s talents were showcased through his work as a director, actor and costume designer in over 50 productions throughout his career. Some of the many shows include South Pacific, Meet me in St. Louis, Grace and Glory, Carousel, Les Miserables, Hello Dolly, Anne of Green Gables, Godspell and his final production Fiddler on the Roof. His favorite role was as Brother Boy in Sordid Lives. In addition to his theater work, Bruce was active in Feast for Friends and the Red Ribbon Gala, both aimed at raising funds for those living with HIV and AIDS. He also directed a production of the Quilt, which highlighted the AIDS Memorial Quilt to raise awareness and funds.

Bruce was by nature a giver and truth teller. He was kind and caring yet full of sass. Bruce was everyone’s go to for fashion needs/costume ideas, tailoring needs, caterer and simply a man of many talents.

Bruce is survived by his partner, Scot Campbell of Coyle, OK. His Sisters: Debra Fairchilds and Sandra Hakey both of Sand Springs, Ok. His sons, Mike (Amy) McClain of Piedmont, OK and Will (Chewy) McClain of Edmond, OK. His grandchildren Maggie, Reid, Liam and Conner. Bruce was also survived by his nieces Summer Fairchilds, Katie (Tommy) DeWall, Samantha Hakey and fiancée Brody Cornelison of Sand Springs, OK, Brooke (Josh) Henson of Mannford, OK and Amanda (Cody) Grandstaff of Sand Springs, OK. Great nieces and nephews: Mason, Lane, Abbigail, Olen, Annabelle, Jace and Joshua Jr.

Bruce was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Bruce was a loving partner, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of honesty, humor and love for all.
