David Montanez Obituary

David Montanez, age 60 of Providence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2024 after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his adoring family. Born in New York City, NY, he was the cherished son of Lucy Sanchez of Providence, RI and the late Francisco Montanez.

In his younger years, David played football. After high school, he attended State University of New York at New Paltz, where he was a beloved brother of the Pi Alpha Nu Fraternity. Through his fraternity, he made friendships that lasted a lifetime. No matter where David went, he always made friends, which might have been due to his hilarious sense of humor. Even while receiving chemotherapy treatments at Rhode Island Hospital, he endeared himself to the nurses there and added some more sisters to his family. David loved his family fiercely, especially his nieces and nephews. He acted as a father figure to everyone. Although he had a great sense of humor, he was also strict and protective of his nieces and nephews. He will be missed deeply by all whose lives he blessed, especially his family.

In addition to his mother, David is survived by his four siblings: Bernice Ramos, Francisco Montanez, Ray Nunez, Jr., and Catherine Nunez; many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly; and his companions and best friends: Cheepo and Mimi.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, followed immediately by a Catholic prayer service at 6:00 PM. Burial will be private.
