Stephen Zimmerman, 77, of Blacklick, Ohio formerly of Wellston, OH went to be with the Lord on July 29, 2024 after a long, hard-fought battle to recover from a stroke with his loving family by his side. Steve was born to Carl and Selma (Willis) Zimmerman on March 26, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio. Steve graduated from Wellston High School in the class of 1965 where he played basketball and was in the concert/marching band.
Steve never knew a stranger and will be most remembered by his kind, generous, and loving heart. Steve was affectionately known as Big Steve and he was big in so many ways. Steve was big in the love he had for his family and friends. Steve was big by how he took care of so many people less fortunate than he. Steve was big in generosity to everyone he met, whether it was giving of his time, wisdom, conversation or fruit he would bring home from Nate's Orchard. Steve found true happiness in taking care of other people and helping in any way he could. Steve was big in his devotion to studying the Bible and sharing the gospel of grace with people. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 was one of his favorite Bible passages. Whether he knew you for a long time or just met you, he loved sharing the way to heaven is only to believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Professionally, Steve was a hard-working entrepreneur. Steve retired from State Auto Mutual Insurance after 31 years of service as well as starting several small businesses before finding his true passion in starting Zimmerman School Equipment in 1983 where he worked side-by-side with his wife Nancy, and both his sons and daughters-in-law Steve, Jr. (Sharon) and Mark (Stacy).
Steve met the love of his life, Nancy (Henry) Zimmerman in 1962 and they were married on June 24, 1967 in Sparta, NC. He enjoyed taking care of her since that day. They spent 57 years together building a beautiful life, spending time with family and friends as well traveling to their favorite places in Arizona and Florida. Their love and commitment to each other was an inspiration to everyone they met and they have cherished every moment they had together. Together they had two sons and four grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, his sons Steve Jr. (Sharon) Zimmerman, Mark (Stacy) Zimmerman and grandchildren Zach (Jennifer) Zimmerman, Sophie Zimmerman, Anna (Tim Gladman) Zimmerman and Lauren (Jimmy Herbert) Zimmerman. Siblings Judy (Bob) Teichman, Richard (Glenda) Zimmerman and many other family members and life-long friends.
