James McCuiston Obituary

James Lorin McCuiston, 71

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Lorin McCuiston on July 29, 2024.

Jim, as most knew him, was born to Donald (Murph) and Caroline (Callie) McCuiston in Olympia,

Washington in March of 1953. Jim was the youngest of two boys.

Jim attended North Thurston Public Schools. It was there that he met his soulmate. Jim and his later to

be wife Terri, went through school together where they enjoyed many activities and made many close

friends. After graduation, Jim attended Central Washington University. While attending Central, Jim and

Terri married on August 5th, 1972. They started their family in Ellensburg. Their son James Thomas (J.T.)

was born first and a few years later Daughter Shannon Marie. The four eventually settled in Olympia

near both of their families.

After graduating from Central, Jim went on to work for several correctional facilities. His journey began

at Monroe State Prison, which led him to Green Hill, and finally to Maple Lane where he worked in

recreation. Jim retired from Maple Lane in 2007.

Jim enjoyed sports, traveling, attending concerts, and most importantly being with his family. Jim was

incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their various events and there

was no denying how proud he was of each of them.

Jim is survived by his son JT (Ragen), daughter Shannon (Nick); five grandchildren James Cade, Rhys,

Dane, Sydnee, and Lauren; brother Mike (Julie); and family Paul (Suzanne), Fred (Bonnie), Celeste (Ben),

Cathy, Tom, and John. Jim is also survived by his cousins and several nephews and nieces.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Terri and his parents, Murph and Callie.

A celebration of life will be held at Lacey Community Center on Friday, August 16 from 1:00-3:00. This is

a celebration, and we are requesting all guests wear their favorite tropical attire in honor of Jim’s legacy.
