Jean J. Braden, 84, of Oil City, died Friday, July 26, 2024 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born October 29, 1939 in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Lottie Renninger Braden.
Family oriented and sassy, Jean was well known for her pig collection. She loved gardening and helping people by volunteering to drive folks around to the store, for errands, or for appointments.
In 1990, she was proud to have earned her literacy certificate, and followed that up by completing her GED in 1995. She worked as an independent home health aide for many years where she had the privilege of helping many people.
She was married to Larry W. Spence for many years, and they remained close friends until his death on January 16, 2021.
Surviving are three children, Barbara Cook and her husband Mike Treadway of Fruitland Park, FL, Steve Spence of Oil City, and James Spence of Oil City; seven grandchildren, Joel Rekiel and his wife Rikki of Lakewood, CO, Matthew Rekiel of Oil City, Cody Spence and his wife Sarah of Seneca, Amber Cook of Deland, FL, Kaitlyn Spence of Seneca, Jason Spence of Seneca, and Brady Spence of Seneca; and three great grandchildren, Tai and Mira Spence of Seneca, and Kalia Bright of Deland, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William, John, and Oliver Braden and an infant brother; and five sisters, Cora McCall, Mary Bennett, Esther Sopher, June Gibson, and Luella Sopher.
Friends will be received at the Morrison Funeral Home, Friday, August 2, 2024 from 10 am to noon where a funeral service will follow at noon.
Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery.
