Laurie Margaret Cooper Obituary

Laurie Cooper, born July 31st, 1955.  Passed away on July 26th, 2024.  She was born to Don and Evelyn Cooper in Terrace Bay Ontario.  Her dad was a banker so they moved around a lot, Schrieber, Ont; McGregor, Man; Maple Creek Sk; Lac La Ronge Sk; Selkirk Mb; Portage la Prairie, Mb; Rose Valley, Sk; Saskatoon Sk; they then settled in Esterhazy in 1968 and never moved with parents again.  She married Keith Fraser July 1, 1972, and had 2 sons Mark Anthony Fraser and Marty Keith Fraser.  They lived briefly in Melville Sk and then moved back to Esterhazy Sk.  They later divorced.  She then joined Trevor Nicholauson and his daughter Tamara in 1989.  Together they fostered Arlee Zerebeski.  They lived on a farm together where they grain farmed, raised cattle and rodeoed.  Robin Dodd also came into her family and was recognised as a daughter.

She was also blessed with two granddaughters Marissa Cheyenne Brown (Mark) and Ande Joan Slater (Tamara), who were both the light of her life.  She was also blessed with Arlee’s 5 childern, Leim, Jaida,Teagan,Tionna and Lily as well as Marissa’s two sisters Ashley and Kendra.

Her passions were her children and her grandchildren, horses, gardening and cooking.  She also enjoyed barrel racing, team penning and cutting for many years.

She was also very active in many clubs, such as the Twin Valley Riding Club since 1978, as well on the town council in Esterhazy.

She worked many different jobs such as Esterhazy Miner Journal, Town of Esterhazy, local shoemaker, Crushrite Concrete, Kleysens and finally at Mosaic where she retired from.

She was first diagnosed with Cancer of the kidney in May 2013 and beat that one, then in July 2019 she was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and in 2021 kidney cancer then developed on her pancreas.  She entered treatment for both cancers and was doing well all this time.  Due to an unforeseen accident Laurie passed away quickly and at peace, where we know she will always be watching over us.

She will be remembered by her children Mark Anthony Fraser, Marty Keith Fraser, Tamara May Nicholauson, Arlee Zerebeski (Lordes) and Robin Dodd; Father, Donald John Cooper; sister; Barbara Louise Messenger (Chuck); grandchildren; Marissa Cheyenne (Mark) and partner Kayla; Ande Joan (Tamara), Leim James, Jaida Rye, Teagan Rose, Tionna Elizabeth and Lily Mei (Arlee); Aunt Dorothy Sundal (Dave) as well as numerous cousins.  Her pets; Duker dog and kitten.

She is predeceased by her maternal and fraternal grandparents William and Olive Cruise and Sidney and Florence Cooper; mother Evelyn Cooper (Cruise); cousins Georgia Wells and Judy Ortloff, Aunts Margart Ortloff, Janette Wells, Doreen Cruise, Audrey Cooper (Robert), Florence Cooper (Jim) and Gwen Cooper (Doug); Uncles Robert Cruise (Doreen), Doug and Jim Cooper and Ed Wells and Earl Ortloff.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family farm on Friday, August 9, 2024 starting at 5:00 p.m. All are welcome.
