Joyce Cobbs Obituary

Joyce Lee Bowens was born on November 7, 1947 in Crockett, Texas to the parentage of Andy Bowens and Eula Ards Bowens. The youngest of six siblings, Joyce was raised in a God-fearing home. She accepted Christ into her life at a tender age and continued to serve the Lord diligently throughout her life.

Joyce graduated from Williams High School in Porter Springs, Texas. She married her high school sweetheart, Willie Frank Cobbs, in 1967.  During their matrimony, their union produced five beautiful, God-fearing children.

Joyce worked as a loan officer at Bank of America for many years before  deciding to pursue her desire to care for others. She then became a nurse. She practiced nursing with various healthcare agencies, including a period of time at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. One of her most enjoyable work experiences was in hospice care where she could share her love of the Lord with those who were transitioning, and their families.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, ministering and crafting.

Joyce’s greatest impact was in the lives of her children, their friends and families.  Never one to compromise, she was known to speak boldly on the promises of God. She was a mother to many in her community and instilled the love of the Lord in her children. She was determined that her family would know and experience Christ for themselves and their generations.

On July 23, 2024, Joyce Lee Cobbs entered the realm of eternity. Those that await her arrival in the heavenly realm are her parents, son (Corey Cobbs), and three siblings (Delois Hanson, John “J.E.” Bowens, Orlean Bowens) and generations of family.

Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her children, Willie Cobbs, Jr. (Denise), Toni Cobbs Dean, Kimberly Archie (Severn), Stefan Cobbs (Jennifer); seventeen grand children; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Birdie Willis; brother, Clorse Bowens and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
