Eleanor “Ellie” Montgomery, of Middleboro, formerly of Randolph, a cherished daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born the eldest of seven children to Ethel and Walter Knights in Fitchburg, MA, Ellie spent her formative years in Randolph and Holbrook, MA. She was married to her husband Gary Montgomery for over 50 years until his passing. Ellie is survived by her brother, Walter “Skipper” Knights, and his wife, Arlene Knights, of Ossipee, NH; her daughter, Gina Montgomery, and son-in-law, Jesus Ramos, of South Yarmouth, MA; and her son-in-law, Gregg Ludecker, of Middleboro, MA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Erin and Kristofer Boutin of North Attleboro, MA; Patrick McHugh and Katie Minahan of Middleboro, MA; Katie Ludecker Will of Midlothian, VA; Lindsey Ludecker of Middleboro, MA. Hand her two grand dogs, Cheeto and Macchiato, who brought her joy and companionship while watching tv during her visits. Ellie’s legacy extends to her five great-grandchildren, with whom she shared countless joyful moments. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherleen Montgomery Ludecker.
Ellie’s life was a testament to kindness and selflessness. She began her career as a dedicated worker at Bry-Mar Nursing Home in Randolph before transitioning to administrative roles in various corrugated houses in Randolph and Stoughton. Later in life, she pursued her passion for caregiving, becoming a Certified Nurses Aid (CNA) and working at Seth Mann Home in Randolph, where she devoted many years to caring for residents before retiring in 2013.
A lover of life’s simple pleasures, Ellie cherished her morning black coffee, indulged in books by Danielle Steel and Robin Carr, and frequented Annie’s Book Store in Raynham. She delighted in watching General Hospital in the afternoons and enjoyed dining out with a glass of white wine. Her recent years where she spent time on Cape Cod with her daughter and son-in-law, savoring the beauty of the ocean, sitting and watching the waves.
Ellie’s proudest achievement was her role as a mother. She instilled in her family the importance of love, support, and perseverance, encouraging her daughters to pursue their dreams with passion and dedication.
A visitation period will be held on Saturday, August 3rd, from 9:00 – 11:00 AM in the Cartwright Funeral Home in Randolph, MA. Ellie will be laid to rest at Central Cemetery in Randolph, alongside her beloved husband, Gary, and her daughter, Kathie.
In honor of Ellie’s wishes, a brunch will be planned in the coming month to celebrate her life. Family and friends are invited to gather for a meal featuring her favorite hash, along with wine and mimosas, as we remember and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who touched so many hearts.
