Luther Stocks, age 79, of Taylorsville, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at The Taylorsville House.

            Luther was born May 28, 1945, the son of the late James Stocks and Ruby Warren Stocks.

            He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era and was a faithful member of Taylorsville Church of God, where he served as church clerk for a number of years and also a Sunday school teacher for numerous years. He enjoyed singing in the choir and with his brothers. He loved his church family dearly.

            Luther was employed with the Alexander County Tax Office as a tax mapper and appraiser from August 1, 1979 until August 11, 1997, then he became the tax administrator. He retired from the tax administrator position on December 1, 2012 and went back as a tax appraiser on January 2, 2013 until August 2, 2019. He enjoyed sports, playing basketball, golfing, and hiking. He loved his family especially his grandchildren.

            Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: his son, John Thomas Stocks; his siblings, Eula Mae Land, Herman Fred “Bud” Stocks, Elbert Lee Stocks, Naomi Testerman, James Elbert Stocks, Jr., Paul Alton Stocks, and Mary Louise Fox.

            Those left to cherish and honor his memories include: his wife of 45 years, Melissa Childers Stocks of the home; his daughter, Jennifer Nations (Tyler) of Kershaw, SC; his son, Brian Stocks (LeAnne) of Taylorsville; his grandchildren, Madison Stocks, Kaitlyn Stocks, Ethan Robinette, Thomas Stocks, Caroline Stocks; his siblings, Leonard Earl Stocks (Alice), Lester Wilburn Stocks (Elaine), David Ray Stocks (Janice); and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

            The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the Taylorsville Church of God. Pastor Mark Albertino will officiate. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Alexander County Veterans Honor Guard.

            The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Taylorsville Church of God.

            Cory Presnell, Jon Presnell, Doug Fox, Jeff Looper, James Childers, and Tyler Nations will serve as pallbearers.
