Maria Candelas Rojas Obituary

We gather today to celebrate the life of Maria Candelas Rojas, known affectionately as Mari and Abuela, whose journey on this earth came to a peaceful close on July 28, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mari was a beacon of love and courage, born on May 20, 1944, in the beautiful town of Teúl de Gonzalez Ortega, Zacatecas, Mexico. She lived a life rich in education, family, and community service, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Mari's educational pursuits led her to earn a Bachelor of Education in Jalisco, Mexico, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning and growth. She raised a beautiful family alongside her beloved spouse, the late Dr. Benjamín Rojas López.

Together, they nurtured a legacy of love and achievement, including their children Dr. Benjamín Rojas Candelas, Ing. Ricardo Rojas Candelas, Dr. Ivett Rojas Candelas, and Dr. Edith Rojas Candelas. Mari's warmth and wisdom continued to shine through her role as a grandmother to Carlos Molina Rojas, Mariana Rojas Ramírez, Paola Molina Rojas, and Sophia Marie Rojas.

Mari's resourcefulness led her to assist in her husband's medical practice, manage family business affairs, and even obtain a pharmaceutical license in Guanajuato, Mexico. Her versatility and intellect were as boundless as her compassion.

A woman of many interests, Mari found joy in reading, traveling, and cooking. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her daily attendance at mass. She was a patron of the arts, frequently found in the company of loved ones at classical music concerts. Mari's dedication to her grandchildren was unwavering, as she supported them in all their endeavors with a gentle strength.

Friends and family will remember Mari as loving, wise, and courageous. These qualities were her guiding lights, illuminating the path for those who followed. “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear,” as eloquently stated by Ambrose Redmoon. Mari lived by this creed, facing life's challenges with an unshakeable conviction in the values she held dear.

Mari's story is a tapestry of the lives she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the love she shared. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by unwavering commitment to her family, her friends, and her community. Maria Candelas Rojas, Mari to those who knew her best, leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.

As we bid farewell to Mari, we reflect on the fullness of her life, the joy she brought to others, and the enduring impact of her spirit. Her memory will be cherished, her presence deeply missed, and her life's work honored by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Maria Candelas Rojas, a remarkable woman, has left us with a treasure trove of memories and lessons that will forever remain in our hearts.
