Sandra “Sandi” Sue (Burkenpas) Jones, 73, of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at her residence following a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born in Lafayette, on December 28, 1950 to the late Ruby (Huizenga) and Clarence Burkenpas.

On May 4, 1979 she married Ernest “Dean” Jones. He preceded her in death in November, 2013.

Sandi graduated from Jefferson High School, Class of 1969 and held office positions over the years before retiring from 20 years of sales, and as an Insurance Agent.

Sandi was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She also especially loved her role as a Grandma.

Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as Christ God forgave you”

Sandi enjoyed gardening, bike riding, volunteering at her church, spending time with family and friends. She also volunteered for Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Greater Lafayette Junior Achievement.

Surviving is her daughter: Holly (Laine) Hastings and son: Brock Jones. Brother Dennis (Janet) Burkenpas and 2 precious grandchildren: Collin and Calli.

Visitation will be held from 5pm – 7pm Friday, August 2, 2024 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 10am Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Withers officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Vale Cemetery.
