Clarence Henry (Claas) Zimmerman, 106, of Beatrice, died Sunday morning, July 28, 2024 at Beatrice Health and Rehab. He was born on August 9, 1917 on a farm near Pickrell to Renke and Friedricka (Rosenthal) Zimmerman. Clarence was baptized on September 13, 1917 and confirmed by Pastor J.B. Reents at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. His confirmation verse was Rev. 2:10 “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” He attended Wallman and Ehmen country schools. On February 18, 1937 he married Helena Oltman at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice. They lived on a farm near Filley for 51 years until moving to Beatrice in 1988. They were blessed with two children, Maxine and Dean. Clarence continued to go to the farm until he did not renew his driver’s license in 2021. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He faithfully studied the Bible to learn about the love of God and His amazing grace. Clarence also enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and beekeeping. He was also fond of trapping fur-bearing animals and watching his grandson play baseball. Most of all, he especially loved all his family.
Survivors include his son, Dean Zimmerman and wife Karen of Beatrice; two grandchildren, Kris (Kevin) Blecha of Steinauer and Derek Zimmerman of San Diego, CA; great-granddaughter, Andrea (Jeff) Deters of Rochester, IL; great-great-grandson, Oliver Deters; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helena, who died on September 28, 1995; daughter, Maxine (Allen) Freese; parents, Renken and Reka Zimmerman; brothers, Arthur (Evelyn) Zimmerman and Ernest (Marilyn) Zimmerman; sisters, Minnie (Herman) Wolken, Emma (Fred) Riensche (John) Dorn, Edith (Bill) Jobman, and Dorothy (Jerry) Busboom; parents-in-law, Harm and Minnie (Duitsman) Oltman; sisters-in-law, Marie (Marvin) Frey and Eileen (Henry) Damkroger. The family would like to thank Beatrice Health and Rehab and Cottonwood Hospice for all their care.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell with Pastor Arden Dorn officiating. The body will lie in state on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from noon until 8:00 P.M. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
