Gary “Harvey” Hensley, 61, of Marshall, NC, passed from this life, Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was the son of Frances Hensley and the late Weldon Hensley. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Julie Ann Laws.

Gary worked as a foreman with Asplundh Tree Service for over 25 years. He was a hard worker and totally dedicated to his family and job. The men he worked with were considered his work family. He took pride in the work of his crew. Gary was what you would call a “picker”. He would search for things to buy and resale with a good eye for old things, being very particular about what he would purchase for resale. He loved to fish and truly loved being on the French Broad River in his canoe. Gary always had a smile on his face, never met a stranger and was always willing to help others.

Gary is survived by his wife of 31 years, Donna Hensley; children, Allen, Alicia and Jessica; sisters, Carol and Sandra; brother, Roger and his grandbabies, Jasmine, Isaiah, Aubrey, Bailey, Makayla and Braylee.

A funeral service will be held 3:00pm Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service. Reverend Dennis Shepherd will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow in the Freeman Gap Cemetery.
