William E. Fischer Obituary

William Edward “Bill” Fischer of Fenton, MO, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2024. Devoted husband of Mary Carol Fischer (nee Liss); eldest son of the late Edward and Dolores Fischer; father of Danielle (J.J.) Walker, Pam (Jason) Winter and Timothy (Jen) Fischer; dear brother of Rick Fischer, Dan (Chad) Fischer, Ann Fischer, Mary (Jim) Viefhaus, Janet (Fritz) Breitenbach, and the late Gabby (George) Copp; beloved grandfather to Alex and Maddox Walker and Wyatt and Maxwell Fischer.

Bill grew up in St. Louis County and attended Chaminade beginning in the third grade. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Masters Degree in Finance, and put his skill for numbers to work for many St. Louis area homebuilders. Bill was a proud member of  The Home Builders Association for more than 40 years and retired as Vice President of CF. Vatterott in 2014.

He met the love of his life, Mary Carol, in 1969, they were married in 1974, and they settled in Fenton, where they enjoyed 50 delightful years of marriage and created a loving home for their three exceptional children.

Bill loved the outdoors and camping, and he applied his knowledge to the leadership of Explorer Post 9646 and Boy Scout Troop 708 in St. Louis for many years. He traveled almost all of the High Adventure Bases, including Sea Base in the Florida Keys, Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota. He was always up for an adventure with friends and family, and loved traveling to Dauphin Island, AL, as well as Alaska.

Among loved ones, Bill would often break into rousing renditions of the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans classic, “Happy Trails.” So many memorable moments were made more special by his enthusiastic singing.

Bill was especially enamored with his family dogs, including Prince, Susie, Gummi Bear, Sugar Bear, Honey Bear, Licorice, Maggie, Tinkerbelle, Spice, Louie, and Hobbs who bit everybody in the butt. In fact, Bill was so inspired by his Great Pyrenees that he wrote and handed out The Legend of the Shepherd’s Gift, a fictional story featuring his favorite breed.

Bill was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2012, and became very active with the Rock Steady Boxing community in St. Louis. He was passionate about sharing his story with others to educate people about life with Parkinson’s.

Above all else, Bill was a dedicated and engaged family man. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his extended family–especially if there was ice cream involved. He will be greatly missed, and we’ll think of him every time we enjoy coffee-flavored frozen treats.

Memorial donations may be made in Bill’s name to Rock Steady Boxing in Fenton, located at 2275 Cassens Court, Ste 107, Fenton, MO 63026.
