Wanda Correne Walmer Obituary

Correne Walmer born July 6th 1930, peacefully passed away on July 28th

2024

She was the beloved daughter of Cleo Minnie Dorsey Chambers and

Hurt Caldene Chambers, who proceeded her in death brothers Arlis

Chambers, Harlen Chambers, Connie Chambers and her sister Kathleen

Dunn (Popeye). She was survived by her daughter Mary Edhaim, life

long partner Bruce Hurst, Her grandchildren Stacy Ramirez, Jill Covey,

Jana Arrowood, Travis Arrowood and wife Katherine Arrowood, 5 great

grand children Ryan Bowman, Ashley Buchanan, Kelsey Davis, Cami

Tharp, and Brodie Marney. 9 Great Great Grandchildren Javier

Castaneda. Luna Castaneda, Canyon Kimblern, Samuel Buchanan,

Camden Kimblern, Shiloh Buchanan, Iris Bowman, Jaggar Davis, and

Aspyn Smith.

Corenne was born at home and then grew up and attended elementary

and middle school in Verdigris where their Hillcrest homestead on the

Cherokee Indian reservation. Correne took pride in her Cherokee

heritage and was a respected member of the tribe.

After graduating high school in Claremore Ok, Correne embarked on a

successful career in baking before finding her true calling as the

Executive Assistant to the management of American Airlines. It was

there she met her lifelong partner Bruce Hurst of 42 years. Together

they sailed through the years traveling throughout the United States

racing Snipe and J24 sailboats. They later enjoyed Heartland Classic’s

Cruising on their home Lake Keystone.

She had many loves of life, spending multiple days gardening and

canning, cooking large family dinners during the holidays, and anyone

who was privileged enough to be invited remembers the Strawberry

Shortcake, cherry pie, coconut cream pies, tabouli and many many

more dishes to list! Other loves included traveling to Europe, and even

taking a few spins around the dance floor as a belly dancer! She loved

capturing all these memories behind her camera.

Correne will be remembered for her stunning red nails, her fiery red

hair and her red glasses! She had an adventurous spirit, love of sailing,

and a great life!
