Alan J. Williams, Chief Petty Officer USN (ret.) 66, died Friday, July 26, 2024. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Robert M. and Rosemarie (Ricci) Williams. He has resided in Smithfield, Virginia since joining the Navy 30 years ago. Alan had served in the US Navy for 23 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in the Engineering dept. in 2000. After his retirement, he worked for various companies doing contract work with equipment maintenance for the US Navy. He was the loving father of Heather M. Shetter, Alan J. Williams Jr. and the late Lisa Marie Williams, and the step-father of Patrick J. Davenport. He was the grandfather of Shawn and Eric Williams and Calvyn Shetter. He was also the brother of David J. Williams (Patricia), Dennis M. Williams (Patricia), Daniel J. Williams (Gretchen) and the late Robert M. Williams. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.


Alan was an avid Fisherman, enjoyed playing chess, listening to music and watching movies. He was known for his unceasing sense of humor. His nephews called him Uncle Orange, and he thoroughly enjoyed humor sent in his direction. He will be missed.
