Marcia Lee Klinger DeBarry Hamill was born October 4, 1937 to Douglas and Catherine (nee ichniewicz) Klinger in Grand Rapids. Michigan. She passed away at Hospice of NW Ohio on July 26, 2024. She had a sister Patricia five years senior, and a brother Douglas five years junior, both deceased. Her father was employed by General Motors and was transferred to Cleveland, Ohio when she was about three years old. They established a home in Lakewood, OH, west of Cleveland on Lake Erie. Her dad passed away when she was nine years old. The family then had some difficult times, they lost their apartment after suffering an electrical fire and lived with friends in Rocky River, OH. Her mother Catherine later married Clement DeBarry a GM colleague of Douglas. Mr. DeBarry, of DeBarry Oldsmobile in East Cleveland, formally adopted the three children.
Marcia graduated from St. Augustine High School, Lakewood, Ohio, and attended Monticello College in Illinois. She later worked for her father at DeBarry Oldsmobile and then became a reservationist at American Airlines. She met Paul Hamill in 1953. She married Paul at St. Christopher’s church in Rocky River Ohio on February 11, 1961 with the blessings of her mother and step father, both of whom passed away months before. Marcia and Paul honeymooned in Hawaii, something normally out of reach, but as an American Airlines employee Marcia was able to find a way to make it happen. They then moved to Columbus, Ohio where she earned a PHT (Putting Hubby Through) at The Ohio State University. While there, she had a good job with Industrial Nucleonics as an operator, receptionist and business travel coordinator for the company executives what with her experience at American Airlines. Upon graduation they moved back to Berea, Ohio where Marcia assumed her desired role, that of homemaker. She bore three children, Paul, Farrell and Catherine (Casey). In 1969 the family moved to Sylvania, moving to their current home in Sylvania in 1981. She became very active in the Lourdes College Ladies’ Auxiliary assuming the title of Vice President and then President in 1994. While serving, she wrote their first organizational manual, a project that outlined the duties of every board member.
Marcia was a conservative, politically. She had her photo taken with Barbara Bush and Malcolm Forbes. She was active in the Lucas County Republican Party and twice elected precinct Captain.
Marcia is survived by her husband and three children, daughter-in- law Caroline (Paul) Hamill and grandson Paul Hamill IV.
Visitation will be 5-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 31 at Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania, and the funeral at St. Joseph Church Chapel at 11 AM on Thursday. Burial to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
