Shirley Martin Foutz was born in August of 1937 in Roanoke, Virginia. She passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the age of 86. She was the only child of Sherman Martin and Francis Martin Hendrick.

Shirley is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, Billy B. Foutz; children, Deborah Ann Martin of Toms River, NJ, Debbie Foutz, Lee Foutz (Goli), and Janet Kline (Mike); grandchildren, Kelly Johnson, Sean Foutz (Allison), Justin Foutz, Kristin Craig (Rich), Deana Blackmire, Kenny Kline, and Kristen Frisby (Jeremy); and 6 great grandchildren, Kaia Frisby, Aiden Blackmire, Alyssa Blackmire, Brandon Blackmire, Ashton Blackmire, and Bailey Blackmire.

Shirley loved music and taught herself to play piano. She and Billy built their own home near Waldron Park and lived there for many years. Shirley also loved animals and had many wonderful pets throughout her life. Shirley was multi-talented, making all sorts of crafts, painting portraits, and hanging wallpaper. Shirley drove a school bus for many years, but her best talent was making and gifting personalized quilts, which was her special way of showing her loved ones how much she cared.

A Chapel Service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 1:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019. A Visitation will be held one hour prior from 12:00pm -1:00pm. Burial at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens will be private for family only.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Angels of Assisi or to the local animal shelter of your choice.
