Mr. James Monroe Ashley, resident of Jonesboro, Arkansas departed this life on Friday, July 26, 2024 from St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center of Jonesboro at the age of 81. Mr. Ashley was born in Heth, Arkansas on August 3, 1942 and was the son of James Robert and Lorene Cox Ashley.

On May 25, 1963 he married the former Patricia Hodges Ashley and together raised two sons, Roger and Timothy. He was an Army Veteran before he became a pastor for Holt’s Chapel Church of God and Fair Oaks Assembly of God. Before retirement, Mr. Ashley was employed through the West Memphis School District as a mechanic for the school. He enjoyed tinkering with old cars and trucks, watching Gunsmoke, Fox News and major league baseball with his favorite team being the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mr. Ashley is preceded in death by his parents, James and Lorene Ashley; one brother, Donald Ashley; one sister, Irene Lawson; and one grandchild, James Ryan Ashley.

Mr. Ashley is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Ashley of the home; two sons, Roger Ashley and wife Taffy of Marion, Arkansas, Timothy Ashley of Hilton Head, South Carolina; three brothers, Larry Ashley and wife Irene of Ash Flat, Robert Ashley of Jackson, Tennessee, Dennis Ashley of Searcy; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Cody Ashley, Colton Ashley, Raymond Blevins, Jordan Brown, Camden Harrell and Michael Harrell. Honorary pallbearer will be Bryson Emerick.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Andrews, officiating. Interment will follow in Harris Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may visit at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. to service time.
