Dorothy G. Marshall, 87, of Boonville passed away Friday July 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be August 3, 2024, from 12-3p.m. at the Cooper Masonic Lodge #36 at 717 Main Street Boonville, MO.

 Dorothy G. Marshall was born on October 23, 1935, in Alton, IL., the daughter of James Robert Gowan, Sr. and Ruth Frace Muesner Gowan. Dorothy was confirmed in Christ in 1946, at the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, now known as the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Boonville. She married Wilbur R. “Dub” Clark in 1954 and later married James W. “Jim” Marshall on October 1, 1983, in Sedalia, MO.  Dorothy graduated with honors from Boonville High School in 1953 and was the BHS Homecoming Queen in her senior year.  She was ‘elected’ cheerleader all 4 years of high school. Performed in quartets, sextets, and trios in chorus.

As a long time, member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ, she was the Superintendent of the Sunday School, Sunday School teacher, church council member, and served on many committees, sang in the choir and was co-leader of Youth Fellowship. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She was elected to the Boonville School Board in 1971, as the first women to be on the board and would also become the first women School Board President in 1973 and served 3 terms. She worked for the Boonville Daily News, Thoma’s Drug Store, Clinic with Dr Alex Van Ravensway, Loan Servicing Clerk, and a bookkeeper for her husband. Dorothy spent her life caring for those around her, she started at a young age as her mother was ill. 

She was the ultimate volunteer, as a troop leader for the Cub Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and a 4-H. Helped with the Boonville Head Start Program, made calls for blood drives for the Red Cross.  She made pies for Kiwanis Chili Dinners, pies for The World-Famous Pie Auction supporting the Boonville Bands, and cookies for many band days, and Boy Scout summer camps.

She loved her family ‘A Bushel and a Peck’ and she will be greatly missed and remembered by her children; Sons: Mark (Kathy O’Connor) of Albuquerque, Stuart (Christy Hilden) and Daughters: Cynthia Clark both of Boonville and Julie Marshall (Glenn) Schupp of Pilot Grove.  Her grandchildren; Stacy (Matt) Wells, Kaitlyn (Michael) Bohannon, Jacob Clark and 1 Great Grandson Dylan Wells.  Sister Susan Brooks, sister-in-law Peggy Gowan and many nieces and nephews.  And her cats Ike, Spike and Sweetie Pie, and Susan’s dog Bogie.

She is preceded in death by her husband James W Marshall, parents James and Ruth Gowan and brothers James and Jerry Gowan, Sister-in-Law Marge Gowan.
