Charlie Burch

Mr. Charlie Burch, 90, of Newton, Baker County, GA, passed away on Thursday afternoon, August 23, 2018, at his home with his family. He had lived his entire life in Baker County, GA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Martha Jane Hatcher Burch, one brother, Henderson Burch, and one sister, Bonvle Burch Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Saturday Morning, August 25, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at Live Oak Free Will Baptist Church, GA Highway 200, Baker County, GA, with Rev. Wayne Sheffield, and Rev. Bob Roberts officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home, Camilla, GA, on Friday night, August 24, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Mr. Burch was born on September 10, 1927, in Baker County, GA, to the late Moree Burch and the late Mattie Tucker Burch. Free Will Baptist by faith, he was a member of Live Oak Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Church Clerk for many years. He was a faithful member of the Paul Palmer Fellowship Conference of Original Free Will Baptist. Mr. Burch attended and graduated from Elmodel School, Elmodel, GA. After schooling, Mr. Burch went to work on the family farm. He served in the United States Army during the 1940’s. Upon his honorary discharge, he returned home, became a self-employed farmer on his newly purchased farm, and continued to farm alongside his father on the family farm. Mr. Burch was actively engaged in farming for 66 years. In addition to farming, he served in many other job capacities: Manager of the Newton Cucumber Shed in Newton, GA, for the Roddenbery Pickle Company, and as a bus driver for 10 years for Baker County Schools. During his lifetime, Mr. Burch was involved in numerous organizations. He was an active member of the Baker County Farm Bureau, serving as County President for many years. Mr. Burch also served as a Georgia Farm Bureau State Director. Mr. Burch served on the Board of Directors for Southwest Georgia Farm Credit Services for twenty-four years, as well as serving on the Peanut Advisory Board for the Georgia Peanut Commission. He was awarded the 2014 Peanut Farmer of the Year for the first district, which was presented by the Georgia Peanut Commission. He was gregarious, outgoing, loved being around and meeting new people, and loved telling stories of Baker County. Mr. Burch is survived by two sons: Jarrell (Celeice) Burch and Tim (Lydia) Burch, all of Baker County, GA; two grandchildren: Matthew (Shannon) Burch of Baker County, GA, and Jeremy (Dawn) Burch of Athens, GA; two great-grandchildren: Shelbie Burch and Macie Burch of Baker County, GA; nephew: Jimmy Burch of Baker County, GA; niece-in-law: Eloise Jordan of Valdosta, GA; numerous other nieces and nephews. Special lifelong friends/family: Faye Jarvis Nesbitt and Rhonda Jarvis Pate of Albany, GA. Special appreciation and thanks are given to his wonderful caregivers: Jessica Craft, Quitty Cross, Sarah Yarley, Brenda Brossman, and Pam Davis.
