Pearl Darcy Syrnyk Obituary

Pearl Darcy Syrnyk, born November 4, 1933, an amazing, knowledgeable and talented wife, mother, Baba and Great Baba passed away peacefully at her home in Regina on Friday, July 26, 2024. She was the loving wife of Jack Syrnyk (predeceased in 2012) and devoted mother to her five children.

Darcy grew up in Yellow Creek, then graduated with her nursing degree in Saskatoon. After marrying Jack, they soon had five children, that included two sets of twins.

She first worked at the Grey Nun’s Hospital (now renamed Pasqua Hospital) and retired from working at Regina Pioneer Village.

Darcy travelled to Ukraine, many countries in Europe, and Mexico. However, her happy place was Hawaii and she visited there many times. Darcy loved Hawaiian music, purchased a ukelele and that’s where she learned to play it; she would play it for anyone who visited her.

She was a gifted musician, she played the piano, violin, guitar and ukelele, and loved to phone her kids on their birthday singing happy birthday while playing the ukelele. While taking nursing in Saskatoon, Darcy played violin with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. She helped all her children with learning to play the piano or violin and recently taught some of her grandchildren to play the guitar.

Darcy was an active member of the Ukrainian Ladies Association and member of the church. She sang in the church choir for over 60 years and often came home still singing church hymns, especially at Easter or Christmas time.

She leaves us with a treasure of memories that we will cherish forever. Darcy will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Ray (Paula), Wayne, Joan (Ron), Marie (Dwight), and Ken; five grandchildren, Ken (Jaimee), Michael (Jessica), Adam (Jill), Matthew, and Stephanie: seven great-grandchildren, Cayden, Caylee, Carter, Emma, Madelyn, Aubrey, and Ava; and her brother Boris.

Funeral Service will be held at the Descent of The Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor, 1305 12th Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Volodomyr Feskiv and Reverend Deacon Mark Dumanski officiating. The service will be livestreamed.

For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations may be made on Darcy’s behalf to a charity of your choice or to the Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
