Maxine Huskins Landis, age 91, of Rutherfordton, NC went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 26, 2024, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.

A native of Mitchell County, Maxine was the daughter of the late Dean Huskins and the late Dovie Sparks Huskins. She was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church for over 50 years. Maxine volunteered at Yokefellow for over 20 years. She loved volunteering there and made lots of friends over the years. She enjoyed her beautiful flowers and tending to her garden. Maxine was a strong Christian woman, until the very end, she loved her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Jay Landis Sr. one son, Elton "Jay" Landis Jr., and thirteen siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Bessie Smith (George), Cathy Hicks, Wanda Hill (Mark), Donna Mooring (Frank), one son, Wade Landis (Janie), one sister, Hazel Mashburn, fifteen grandchildren, Billy Smith, Travis Smith, Robert Landis, Leigh Pearson, Jason Keever, Joseph Keever, Brad Hill, Jeremy Hill, Gregory Hill, Heath Landis, Ethan Landis, Anna Reaper, Sarah Landis, Lindsay Roddy, and Jared Mayse, Joshua Mooring, Gage Mooring, Bryson Mooring and numerous great-grandchildren, and  son-in-law, James Hicks. 

The Maxine Landis family would like to thank the hospice staff for the special care and love the staff gave "Momma" and her entire family.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM, Monday, July 29, 2024, at Piedmont Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at Piedmont Baptist Church at 1:00 PM, Monday, July 29, 2024 with Reverend Ad Hopper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043, or to Yokefellow Rutherford County, 132 Blanton St. Spindale, NC 28160. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
