John Leslie O’Brien, 81, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Friday, July 26, 2024. He was born on Wednesday, November 4, 1942 to the late Raymond Vincent O’Brien, Sr. and Lois Minerva (Weston) O’Brien. He is predeceased by his loving wife Shirley Ann (Medzie) O’Brien.

He and his wife had a passion for the Caring Cupboard and volunteering to help others. Not only was he a loving father and grandfather to his own but he and his wife also fostered two special need’s children through St. Mary of Providence in Elverson, PA. More than anything he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

John is survived by his children: Sandi Brettler and husband Robert of Palmyra and John O’Brien of Scottsdale, AZ; four grandchildren, Conner O’Brien, Rachel Brettler, Hunter O’Brien, and John Brettler; great grandson, Owen McKay O’Brien, son of Conner and Jesse O’Brien; and brother, Raymond V. “Bud” O’Brien. He is predeceased by his siblings, William E. O’Brien, Mary Jean Herr, and James P. “Pat” O’Brien.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 2nd, 2024 at 11 AM at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 300 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. A time of visitation will be held from 10 AM until the start of mass. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Hershey Cemetery, Hershey.
