Linda Caputo, 76, passed away in Colorado on July 25, 2024 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her daughters and is now at peace.
Linda was born on March 19, 1948 to Margaret and Anthony Viola in New York. After graduating from Babylon High School in 1966, she continued her education at Suffolk Community College, where she received her associate degree, and then at SUNY Geneseo, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in education in 1970.
Linda taught at a few schools in North Babylon until she married Geoffrey Caputo in 1972 and paused her teaching career to raise their three daughters, Jennifer, Melissa, and Carolyn. Some of her fondest memories are the numerous camping trips her family took over the years.
Once her children were in elementary school, Linda worked at a local department store and became a substitute teacher. While working and raising three young girls, she earned a master’s degree in education and renewed her teaching certification. Linda became a reading specialist in the West Islip Public School system were she taught until she retired in 2010.
After retiring, Linda and her husband Geoffrey, moved to Colorado to be closer to their daughter Melissa and her family. Geoffrey passed away in 2014, but Linda remained in Colorado and developed many lovely friendships over the past ten years. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling, painting, taking art classes, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Anthony Viola; her husband, Geoffrey Caputo; and her grandson, Jacob Haberzettl. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Caputo, Melissa Haberzettl, and Carolyn Caputo; sons-in-law Andrew Dewar and Rudy Haberzettl; grandsons Dylan and Connor Haberzettl; granddaughter Sofia Dewar; sister Kathleen Papp and brother-in-law Kenneth Papp; brother Michael Viola and sister-in-law Barbara Viola; brother-in-law Paul Caputo and sister-in-law Annie Caputo. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service will be held on Monday, July 29th at 2:30 pm at Secret Window, 47 3rd Street, Monument, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, an organization Linda felt very strongly about: https://pancan.org/
