MIDDLETON - Robert C. Wagner, age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Cardinal View Senior Living in Middleton. Robert was born July 14, 1933, the son of George and Lena (Laufenberg) Wagner. He married Coletta Esser on April 12, 1955, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Perry Township. Together they farmed Robert’s family farm in Ashton. Robert loved planting and harvesting crops with his trusty John Deere tractor.
Robert belonged to St. Peter's Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. He was in the Wisconsin Air National Guard from 1956 to 1959. He enjoyed bowling, euchre, and playing solo with friends every Monday. Robert cherished spending time with family, friends and the ones who meant the most to him, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Coletta, and their five children, Linda (Mitch) Hellenbrand, Larry (special friend Kristin), Nancy (John) Laufenberg, Gary (Jessica) and Roger (Michelle); grandchildren, Heather (Torey) Carpenter, Steven Hellenbrand, Kayla (Jordan) Kopp, Kelli (Blair) Markowski, Haley Laufenberg, Wyatt Wagner, Lukas (Whitney) Wagner, Craig Wagner, Ben Wagner, Cody Wagner, Brandon (Sarah Vroman) Wagner and Dakota Wagner (Asiana Brown); great-grandchildren, Lilly and Grace, William and Owen, Miles and Collins, Everett and Baby Wagner on the way; sisters, Ann Wagner, Irene (Fritz) Bindl and Helen Frey; and in-laws, Evie Wagner, Eugene Esser, Delores Esser, Doris Zweifel, and Jim and Esther Esser. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Stanley, Delores, Father Donald Wagner, Doris, and two infants; and in-laws, Earl Maier, LaVern Frey, Earl and Frances Garfoot, Delmar Zweifel, Joanne and Joe Doherty, Marge Esser and Philip Esser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7121 County Road K, Ashton, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, with Father Brian Dulli and Father John Meinholz concelebrating. Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday.
