Omer Leroy 'Roy' Wilson Obituary

Omer Leroy “Roy” Wilson passed away on July 16, 2024, joining his loving wife of 65 years, Judith Ann “Judy” Wilson, who went on to be with her Lord on July 6, 2022.  Roy was born on December 21, 1938 to Omer and Helen Wilson of Edenville, Michigan.   He married Judy Wilson in 1957 and helped raise three daughters, Cindy Wilson, Linda Willis (Richard), and Dee Kirk (Tim).  He leaves behind four surviving siblings, Joyce Vanderbush, Thomas Wilson (Paulette), June Toner (Darell), and Gerald Wilson, and one sister who preceded him in death, Jean Patino (David).  He also had five grandsons, nine great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and one Uncle!  Roy graduated from the Midland High School with the class of 1956.  He worked at Dow Corning Semiconductor in Hemlock Michigan for over 30 years.  Roy enjoyed many years of wintering in Hilltop Lakes Texas with his wife.  He enjoyed 40 years of rustic camping every summer on Lake Huron on Drummond Island.  He said he was the luckiest man alive to have a wife like Judy who also loved the outdoors.  He had a true love and appreciation for the majesty and beauty of all of God’s creation.  He loved to hunt and fish and loved to see young people take up hunting and fishing.  He taught admiration and respect for wildlife and the importance of marksmanship in harvesting big game.   When we were little, Daddy used to refer to heaven as the “happy hunting ground”, but in his later years he testified to others of his faith in Jesus Christ.  He is now resting in the promise in Matthew 10:32 NIV “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.”  Roy was baptized at 83 years old on December 29, 2021 in a horse trough - befitting a man with a cowboy mentality.  Two songs come to mind when thinking of him, Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and Waylon Jennings’ “The Eagle”.  He was a very patriotic man and loved his country and freedom.  He died at home in the log cabin he and his wife built together in Edenville Michigan.  Like a cowboy, he went out with his boots on and like a patriot, with love in his heart for this country.  But most importantly, he went with faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ.  He will be missed around the campfire, but we’ll see him soon.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the youth programs in your local sportsman’s club or provide support to a local veteran.  All of us at Ware Smith Woolever are honored the Wilson family has entrusted us with the care of their loved one.
