Thomas F. Murray Obituary

Thomas F. Murray, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024 at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Born in Elizabeth, he was a lifelong resident of Cranford.

A graduate of Roselle Park High School. Thomas earned his Master’s Degree in mathematics from Newark State University. He taught high school math for 54 years, starting his career at Weequahic High School in Newark and for the last 20 years at Seton Hall Preparatory School.

Thomas was a family man who loved spending his time down the shore, having dinner at Grandma’s, playing golf, family vacations, coaching and watching his kids play sports and later his grandchildren. He was a lifelong Jets and Mets fan.

He was predeceased by his daughter Jessica Murray; his father and mother Frank and Charlotte Murray; and his sister Judith Yohannon.

Surviving are his devoted wife Donna (nee Pierre); his beloved son Thomas Murray (Lauren); daughters Melissa Murray and  Amanda DiMaria (Brian); and his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia, Thomas, and Emma. He will be dearly missed by his brother and sister in laws Anita (Stan) Umiasz, Daniel (JoAnn) Pierre and Debra (Bruce) Essing; nieces and nephews Kelley, Alysha (Brett), Alyson (Jeremy), Danielle (Matt) ; great niece Stella and great nephew Grayson.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit Tuesday July 23, from 2-5 and 7-9 pm at Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West, Cranford, NJ, 07016. A Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, July 24, at 10 am at St. Michaels Church in Cranford. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
