Linda Owen Obituary

Linda Owen was born on May 2, 1944 in Durand, Wisconsin to Ronnie and Lena Steller. Linda is survived by her sister, Louella Steller (James Barbee); brother, Lyle Steller (Nancy); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Ronnie and Lena Steller; brother, Larry Steller (Midge); sister, Lois Lynn Steller; and ex-husband, George (Bernie) Owen. She was a great sister, loving aunt and a good friend to everyone who was fortunate to know her.

Linda grew up on a dairy farm in Durand, where she attended a one-room school in Plummer Valley. She graduated from Arkansas High School and continued her education by earning a degree as a radiology technician from Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. She left Wisconsin to travel the world. Her first job was working in a hospital in London. She later took on unique jobs while traveling, including bartending in Germany and Spain. When she returned to the U.S., she moved to Alabama where she met her future husband George (Bernie) Owen. She later moved to Houston where she worked for St. Luke’s Hospital for several decades. In retirement, Linda volunteered with the Angels Rescue Program driving cancer patients to their appointments and providing additional support. Linda had a kind heart and would go to great lengths to help anybody in need.

Linda also had a love of animals, dating back to her childhood horse Queen. She had a particular passion for helping stray animals and rescued several dogs. Her last rescue, a pit bull named Priscilla, was scheduled to be put down the day Linda adopted her. In her retirement, Linda enjoyed taking long road trips, frequently traveling to New York City where she attended the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show with her friend Barb Ebarb. She enjoyed spending time with her dear friends, Sandi Glorifield, Shannon Lerner and Catherine Swilley.

Linda resided at Brookdale Independent Living for five years before passing away on July 14, 2024 due to health issues. She will be missed and remembered always.

A family celebration honoring Linda will be held in Arkansaw, Wisconsin in the near future.
