Edith Elizabeth McFadden Obituary

Edith Elizabeth (Mills) McFadden, age 86 of Leonardtown Maryland passed peacefully on July 14, 2024, in the company of loved ones. She was born April 14, 1938, in Leonardtown Maryland to the late George Daniel Mills Sr. and Mary Madeline (Hebb) Mills. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters Lena C. (Mills) Buckson, Mary Susie Mills, Mollie A. (Mills) Diggs, Viola Mills, Sara Teresa Mills, Estelle Mills and her brothers Charles B. Mills and Daniel G. Mills Jr.

Edith graduated from Banneker School in Loveville Maryland. She moved to Baltimore Maryland to pursue a job and help family. She began working and later got her first apartment on Gwynn Falls Parkway in Baltimore Maryland directly across from the zoo. In 1971, she married the late Woodrow McFadden and from this union, two children were born Angela and Gabriella.

Edith worked in a variety of fields throughout her life. She began working at a Nursing Facility and being a Caregiver for a family in Baltimore Maryland. She also worked many years in the field of Nursing. She was a devoted and compassionate Private Duty Nurse. In 1981, she began her career with St. Mary’s County Public Schools. She was a custodian at Chopticon High School and Green Holly Elementary. She retired in 2004 with a total of 19 dedicated years.

Edith was a lifelong member of Our Lady’s Catholic Church. She regularly attended service on Sundays and participated in many church socials. She devoted time and was committed to praying the rosary and keeping her faith. She enjoyed crabbing, playing her numbers, going on bus trips, playing bingo, and gardening. She loved visiting her family local and as far away as Baltimore MD and Washington DC. She doted on her family and made sure holidays, birthdays, and graduations were special. Family was very important to her and she showed it time after time. Edith was a straight shooter, but she had the biggest heart and was definitely a child of God.

She is survived by her loving daughters Angela E. (McFadden) Chase and Gabriella A. McFadden. She has six grandchildren Tremaine Q. Ellis, Jeanette R. Chase, Chikasha P. (Chase) Holland, Quentin X. Chase Jr., Imoni A. McFadden, Lameea D. Clyburn, and eleven great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn a special godchild Dr. Joyce M.
