Frederick Alfred Cain, Jr., “Freddie”, 82, of California, MD, formerly of Prince George’s County, MD, passed away on July 16, 2024, in Leonardtown, MD. Born on December 5, 1941 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Alice Louise Fogg and the late Frederick Alfred Cain. Freddie was the loving husband of the late Iva May Cain, whom he married on February 2, 1963, in Washington Church of the Brethren, Washington, D.C, and who preceded him in death on April 20, 2023. He is survived by his children, Julie Johnson (Danny) of Mechanicsville, MD, Brian Cain of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Bill Cain (Candy), his siblings Aubrey Cain of NC, Kenny Cain of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Kelly Cain of NY, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Freddie was preceded in death by his son Jeff Cain, and his siblings Phyllis Gibbs, Shirley Hamilton, Jean Arsentault, Betty Kahn, Harriett Luckett, and Jane Dennison.


Freddie graduated from Surratsville High School in 1959. He moved to St. Mary’s County, MD from Prince George’s County, MD in 1973. Freddie was a trucking company dispatcher for Jacobs Transfer Co. for 21 years, retiring in November 1985.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Matthew Tate officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Johnson, Alan Johnson, Danny Johnson, Jeffrey Cain, Brenden Cain, and Tim Bolton.


Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, the Hollywood Vol. Rescue Squad, and/or the Lexington Park Vol. Rescue Squad.
